Elwood W. Raymond, age 90, of Cherry Valley township, OH, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Briar Hill Health Care Residence in Middlefield, OH. He was born May 7, 1924, in Cleveland, OH, the son of Michael and Edna (Reister) Raymond. He attended West High School in Cleveland, OH, graduating in 1942. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the 95th Infantry Division (Victory Division) in WW II serving from April 1943 to November 1945. He fought throughout the France Campaign, the Rhineland Campaign, the Ardennes-Alsace Campaign, and the Central Europe Campaign. He earned a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct medal, European Campaign ribbon with 3 stars, American Theater Campaign ribbon, World War II Victory medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and a Marksman Rifle medal. Upon being discharged from the Army, he went to work for Eaton Corporation in Eastlake, OH, and retired in April 1986. Mr. Raymond was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Andover, OH. Mr. Raymond married Dorothy R. (Olejnik) on August 3, 1946. She preceded him in death on December 5, 2011, after 65 years of marriage. He is also preceded by his parents; his son, Jeffrey E. Raymond in November 1971; his sister, Gertrude (John) Petrencsik; two brothers, Adelbert M. (Jean) Raymond and Wayne E. Raymond; and in-laws, Russell and Helen Connelly. He is survived by six daughters, Donna M. (Don) Kaltenbach of Perry, OH; Kathleen A. Raymond of Willowick,OH; Janet R. (Frank) Takacs of Parkman, OH; Lois J. (Byron) Dutton of Austinburg, OH; Diane M. (Mark) Smith of Santa Barbara, CA; and Joyce E. (William) Ammons of Greenville, PA; and his son, Douglas J. (Eileen) Raymond of Geneva,OH; fifteen grandchildren, Karen Kaltenbach, Laura Kaltenbach, Mary Kaltenbach, David Kaltenbach, Raymond (Elizabeth) Kaltenbach, Susan (Joel) McAndrew, Jackie Takacs, Todd (Janice) Dutton, Rachel Dutton, Becky Dutton, Jennifer (Edgar) Cabrera, Joy Ammons, Kristin Ammons, Chad (Kristen) Raymond, and Courtney (Quaid) Traves; eleven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sharon Raymond; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 23rd at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 481 S. Main St., Andover, OH, with Father Ernesto Rodriguez as celebrant. The Rosary service will be at 11 AM Friday morning at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warriors Project, a local VFW, local American Legion, or local DAV.
