Gerald Allen Pompeii

d. November 25, 2014

Kinsman: Gerald Pompeii Gerald (“Jerry”) Allen Pompeii, 71, passed peacefully early Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, in the comfort of his Kinsman, Ohio home, following a valiant fight with cancer. Jerry was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Oct. 5, 1943, to parents, John R. and Katherine H. (nee’ Kosco) Pompeii. Jerry attended Cardinal Mooney High School and graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1961. After learning the building trade from his father, Jerry moved to Kinsman, Ohio in 1971 to start Master craft, a decorative brass finishing and fabricating business, setting up operations in a converted feed mill. Over the next 25 years, Jerry showcased his master craftsmanship by transforming an adjacent barn to a colonial-style home that later was a featured stop on Kinsman’s Centennial Harvest of Homes Tour. Jerry carried on Pompeii Construction, the business his father started in 1936, throughout his life and carved his own path in reorienting Kinsman’s commercial center by building the Main Street Mini Storage Plaza, bringing a medical center and a drug store to his town. Continually challenging himself, Jerry took on his largest professional endeavor by building the 30-unit North Coast Landing in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio, complete with the construction of his very first erosion wall. Jerry carried on the family tradition of winemaking and ultimately realized his dream to sell wine by forming the Fiorello Pompeii Winery. An avid cook, Jerry shared his love of comfort Italian food with his brother, John (“Jack”) Pompeii, at bi-monthly dinners with the Cleveland Italian Ancestry Organization (CIAO). Jerry’s love for travel only will be surpassed by how much he will be missed on annual trips to Pier House in Key West, FL. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include three sons: Andrew (Tami) of Poland, OH, Jason of Chicago, IL, and Jarod of Southington, OH; granddaughters: Samantha of Cleveland, OH and Katelyn of Poland, OH; a brother, Jack (Carole) of North Olmsted, OH; a niece and four nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 343 Mt. Carmel Ave, Youngstown, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 9:00am until the time of services. Jerry’s final resting place is at the Kinsman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to Hospice House 9803 Sharrot Road, Poland, OH 44514. Jerry’s family would like to express their gratitude for the tender care from FirstLight family and for his friends that shared so much. Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service of Kinsman handled the arrangements where an online guestbook is available at www.baumgardnerfuneralhomes.com
