Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania - Shirley J. Mateer, age 86, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015. She was born on February 8, 1928 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Isadora Irene (Medaugh) Dalton and John Lawrence Dalton, Sr. Shirley attended Altoona High School. On December 4, 1959 she married Robert C. Mateer. In 1969 they moved to Kinsman, Ohio. She was employed for a number of years at Bob's Market in Kinsman. Shirley found her true calling when she joined the staff at Boyd's Kinsman Home as a supervisor for twenty eight years until her retirement in 2011. She was a member of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and served as a Deacon. She was a Girl Scout leader of Troop 338 for twelve years and volunteered for the Kinsman Summer Youth program. She enjoyed roller skating, sewing, bowling, and making crafts. Shirley was proceeded in death by her parents; Robert her husband of 22 years; a grandson, Terry R. Aungst, Jr.; and a brother John "Jack" Dalton. Survivors include daughters Karen L. Mateer of Burghill, Ohio and Sandy J. (Terry) Aungst of Altoona, Pa; sons Robert M. "Bob" Mateer of Howland, Ohio; John "Jack" (Angela) Dietrick of Wilmington, Ohio, and Charles T. Schum; granddaughters Tammy (Matt) Guida; Pamela Aungst and Ron Settlemeyer; Sherry Woytowiez and Brian Bauman; great grandchildren Terry III, Zachary (Mandy) and Rachelle Aungst; Mathew Guida, Cieara Miller, Mike Dobson, Lindsey Settlemeyer and Amber Woytowiez who was born on Shirley's birth date; and great-great grandchildren Riley, Elena, and Noah Aungst. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Spring. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Kinsman Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsman Presbyterian Church.
