Elmer Adelbert Holmes,

Andover - Elmer Adelbert Holmes Jr., 70, of Andover, Ohio, passed away November 20, 2018 at his home. Elmer was born in the town of Vienna, New York to Evelyn Heller and Elmer Holmes on October 20, 1948. Elmer graduated from Camden High School in the mid 60s. Elmer was always a hard worker who held many jobs that took him all over the U.S. In his late twenties, he started what would be his life long career as an ironworker. He retired from Ironworkers Union Local 207 in 2010. Elmer was as enormous in heart as he was in stature. He loved music, hot rods/fast cars, animals of all kinds, gardening, cooking, fishing and most of all his family. Affectionately known to many as “Big Elmer”, his large frame commanded respect, yet he was one of the most gentle, helpful and compassionate people one could could have had the pleasure to know. Elmer was a very active member of many clubs, including(but not limited to) The Moose, VFW, The Sportsman’s Club. He was a charter member of the The Eagles Club Aerie #4035. Elmer was always the first to lend a helping hand and always saw things through to the end, no matter how difficult they may have been. He contributed to multiple charities such as the nature Conservancy, the VFW, Saint Labre Indian school, boys town, sierra club, and Southern poverty Law Center to name a few. He was very politically active and always made a point to VOTE. Elmer was predeceased by both of his parents, siblings, George Wood, Tom Wood, Ernest Wood, Evelyn Wood and son, Eric Holmes. He is survived by sisters, Marsha (Ron) Schlotzhaur, Elizabeth (Leroy) Brockway; children, Kerri Holmes, Kyndra Mae Holmes, Troy Holmes, Buffy Elder, Shannon (Ben) Hammond and Heather (Addison)Warner; grandchildren Evelyn Gilbert, Davien Clayton Holmes, Tristan Nowak, McKenzie Nowak, Zachary Fuller, Ariana Hammond, Jessica Elder, Jamie Hargreaves, Kayla Wilson; great grandchildren Avelyn Crown and Amelia Crown; many cousins, nieces and nephews; beloved pets Wrylie and George and MANY friends.
