Graydon E. Brooks, 85 years old, of Richmond Twp, Ohio, died at home on Tuesday, October 5, 2004. Mr. Brooks was born on September 13, 1919, in Richmond Township, Ohio, to the late Lynn Brooks and the late Otta (Daubinmire) Brooks. A lifelong Richmond resident, Mr. Brooks owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was president of the Richmond School Board in the 1950's and was active in the South County Republican Club for many years. He was awarded the club's "Mr. Republican" award in 1991 for outstanding service. Mr. Brooks enjoyed hunting, fishing, making maple syrup, and attending mule shows. In his retirement years he especially enjoyed woodworking. His claim to fame was his outstanding ability to find water (well-witching, formerly known as dousing) for anyone who came to him for help in siting a well. He was also known to have repaired almost every hay baler within a 50 mile radius sometime in the past 30 years. Mr. Brooks married Mildred E. (Vesey) on November 10, 1941, and was perceded in death by her on October 24, 1998. Also preceding him in death are his brother, Gordon Brooks, and his sister, Dolores Teachout. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lee (Scott) Tripp of Cincinnati, OH; his daughter, Donna Buell of Andover, OH; his son, Allan E, (Patty) Brooks of Richmond, OH; his son, Brian A. (Amy) Brooks of Linesville, PA; his three sisters, Gertrude Downing of Jefferson, OH; Ida Mae Kearney of Girard, OH; and Lois Denison of Linesville, PA; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 8, 2004, at 11:00a.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio. Burial will follow in Dart Cemetery, Richmond, Ohio.
