Sandra Lee (Koivisto) Eastlake, 61, of Salem, died on Thursday, April 7, 2005, at her home after a six month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born May 21, 1943, in Warren, Ohio, to Vilho "Willie" and Elizabeth (Inman) Koivisto. A resident of Salem since 1967, Mrs. Eastlake was an avid artist, reader, and writer, in addition to being a former teacher at the South Range School in Greenford, OH, a Sunday school teacher, and a teacher of creative writing for adults. The owner and operator of Sunny Slope Studio in Salem, Mrs. Eastlake enjoyed photography, painting and weaving and was a published writer and photographer with articles appearing in Handwoven and The Weaver's Journal and a photograph published in Sun Magazine. She kept a journal for over 27 years, traveling throughout the United States and abroad, collected antiques, and grew lush flower gardens. A former docent at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Mrs. Eastlake was a ten year member of the Youngstown Area Weaver's Guild, the Charles Burchfield Homestead Society, the Central Florida Button Collectors, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Salem and its bereavement committee. Mrs. Eastlake was 1961 graduate of Pymatuning Valley High School in Andover, and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in education from Youngstown State University in 1965. she also received her Art Certification with a concentration in fibers from Youngstown State University in 1980. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, David Eastlake of Salem; her daughter, Gwendolyn (David) DeCrow of Marco Island, FL; her son, Gregory (Julie) Eastlake of Sandusky, OH; her parents of Andover; two younger sisters; Marlea (Francis) Sparks of Bourbonois, IL; and Gail (Al) Sparks of Ashtabula, OH; one grandson and three step grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2005, at 11:00a.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH, with Reverend Neal "Mac" Kelly, of the First United Methodist Church of Salem officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Andover. Calling hours will be on Sunday, April 10, 2005, from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at the funeral home and also on Monday from 10:00a.m. until the time of service.
