Victor E. Fetters, 83 years old, of New Lyme, Ohio, died on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville, Ohio. Victor was born on February 23, 1921, in New Lyme, Ohio, to the late Roy A. Fetters and the late Wilma M. (Bebout) Fetters. A lifelong New Lyme resident, Mr. Fetters graduated from Deming High School in New Lyme in 1939. Mr. Fetters owned and operated with his son, a dairy and grain farm for over 60 years, remaining active until the last year. He was a member of the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, where he formerly served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Jefferson Grange #1311; the Ashtabula County Holstein Club; the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club; the Farm Bureau; the United Methodist Men; and an associate member of the Laker Ruritan Club. He was the sole recipient of a 60 year attendance award at the New Lyme Alumni Banquet. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodworking, and being with his family. He was well-known for roasting pigs for area fundraisers. Mr. Fetters married Alice E. Betts on December 31, 1944, in Andover, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vernon and Roy Fetters, Jr., and one sister, Glenna Lipps. He is survived by his wife, Alice E. Fetters of New Lyme, OH; his daughter, Deanna J. (Brian) McGirr of New Lyme, OH; his son, Reid A. (Camille) Fetters of New Lyme, OH; his daughter, Margie K. (William) Lang of Alburquerque, NM; his daughter, Sheri L. (Paul) Busch of Jefferson, OH; his brother, Roger D. (Nettie) Fetters of Andover, OH; his brother, Lee E. (Laurel) Fetters of New Lyme, OH; his sister-in-law, Cora Fetters of Hubbard, OH; his sister, Emogene L. (Earl) Smith of Austinburg, OH; his sister, Rosalyn A. (Raymond) Beckwith of New Lyme, OH; 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2004, at 6:00p.m. at the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, St. Rt. 6, Cherry Valley Township, Ohio, with the Reverend Julie Hanneman officiating. A private burial will take place in Brownville Cemetery, New Lyme. Calling hours will be held at the church on Sunday from 3p.m. to 6p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church or the family. Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St. Andover, Ohio, is handling the arrangements.
