KINSMAN-William L. Reed, age 93, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Cortland Healthcare Center.

Born February 1, 1931, in Punxsutawney, PA, he was a son of the late Glen E. and Helen V. (Palmer) Reed. After he graduated Punxsutawney High School, Mr. Reed served in the United States Army as a combat medic during the Korean War before being honorably discharged in 1954. He married the love of his life, Jane B. Smith, on September 11, 1951. At the time of her passing in 2015, they had been together for 63 years.

Mr. Reed worked as a machine assembler at Taylor-Winfield Technologies, Inc.in Warren, OH for 31 years where they knew him as “Farmer Reed”. After long days in the steel mill Farmer Reed would go home and tend to his beef cattle. He shared his love of farming with his youngest son, Doug. The simple joys of being on a tractor, making good quality hay, and spending time with his family on the farm brought him immense happiness.

Over the years, Mr. Reed volunteered as a Sunday School teacher at Hartford Methodist Church in Fowler, OH and the Bethel Creek Baptist Church in Live Oak, Florida. In his leisure time, William enjoyed wintering in Live Oak, Florida, alongside his beloved wife. They enjoyed spending time playing cards and having potlucks with their family members that also lived in the same town. Their shared adventures and experiences together created cherished memories that will be forever remembered. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Laurie A. (Dennis) Newman of Payson, AZ; son, G. Douglas (Lori) Reed of Johnston, OH; eight grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Hazlett of Johnston, OH and Delores Burkett of Markton, PA; daughter-in-law, Melanie Reed of Spartensburg, PA.
