Matthew Neil Kotanchek

Matthew Kotanchek, age 49, of Farmdale, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.
Matthew was born March 28, 1974, in Greenville, PA. He was a graduate of Badger High School and attended Youngstown State University for engineering. He was employed as the Director of Maintenance at WRTA in Youngstown, Ohio. He had a passion for helping the community via public transportation. 
Matt enjoyed traveling with his wife Kelly. He liked to host parties and enjoyed teaching his son, Mason, about all aspects of farming, equipment operations, and excavating. Matt started his own excavating company. He coached his son in sports for many years, as well as attended all of his children's sporting events. He looked forward to spending time with his granddaughter Hazel. He enjoyed vacationing with his Uncle Rick and Aunt Darla. Matt was well known for giving excellent advice and lending a helping hand to many. He positively impacted his community and will be greatly missed. 
Matt is survived by his wife, Kelly (Pingley/Gatrell); two children, Mason Kotanchek and Haley (Michael) Zielinski; granddaughter, Hazel; his parents, Beckie (Joseph) Ferrante and Peter F. Kotanchek; brother, Peter M. (Kendra) Kotanchek; grandmother, Elizabeth Kotanchek; niece, Casey (Travis) Sapp, grandnephew Westley and grandniece Isla Sapp. His mother and father in law Sally and Larry Pingley, and brother-in-law Todd Pingley. He is also survived by many loving aunts and uncles, cousins, and second cousins. 
He was preceded in death by Genevieve Letcher (grandmother), Terry Shappell (stepfather), David Kotanchek (uncle), and Shirley and Lee Aiken (aunt and uncle). 
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, OH 44428. Private inurnment will take place in Kinsman Cemetery.  Share a fond memory or condolence at www.baumgardnerfuneralhome.com.
